a couple of “pre-cake” one year portraits…

i finished lesson 4 (the final lesson) of the food phoography class i told you about here…
this was the yummiest lesson by far…the instructor said we could “show what we know” and use any subjects we wanted…of course i went for something sweet, something chocolate from Edibles Incredibles in Reston Town Center…and after the photo lesson was finished, the chocolate cupcake was especially yummy!

…oh, if only that were the case these days! this is how i kept busy on a recent snow day!
i recently signed up for a photgraphy class, the art of food photography. thought i would try something a little different…and this is as different as it gets from my usual children’s portraits!
if you are interested in improving your photography skills, check out PPSOP (Picture Perfect School of Photography) – they have some great on-line courses, with everything from beginner to advance, lasting four weeks up to twelve weeks. if you are looking for an outlet for your creativity this winer or want to learn how to use your camera’s features, there is sure to be something here for you.
so here is something a little different from me…

we have sun, we see melting…
but…will there be school tomorrow?
UPDATE: well, we just got the answer to that question…no school again!

Wow! What a storm! It’s almost hard to believe we ever could get this much snow in Northern Virginia!
This will be the winter our kids tell their kids about some day. First, there was the “Blizzard of 2009″ – shown HERE. And now seven weeks later we get hit again. The final tally that my kids measured was about 24 inches in our yard. (The Washington post officially reports 27 inches in Reston.)
Now the interesting part begins…how many days will school be closed?! And how much snow will Tuesday’s storm bring with it?

this is probably my favorite holiday of them all…i love all of the traditions, excitement, and quiet moments. i love the preparations, starting in november with ideas, decorations, gifts…and i especially love seeing it all come together on christmas day.
portraits by christa will be closed through january 17 in order to enjoy time with my family. i am also attending an exciting three day photography workshop during this time, where i’ll get lots of new ideas to start 2010. i look forward to seeing all of you again in the new year to capture new memories for your family. if you have any questions, please e-mail me and I’ll get back to you as soon as i can.
i wish each of you many wonderful “memory making” moments with your family during this season. and from my family to yours…

haven’t seen this much snow since those awesome storms in the late 1970’s!! wow, 18 inches on our deck (see last pic below) – record measurements for the dc/northern virginia area!
life came to a screeching halt this weekend and it was great to know that we didn’t have to be anywhere (since we couldn’t actually get anywhere!). we could just hang out and do whatever we felt like. my kids spent about 12 hours every day since the “blizzard of 2009″ building snow forts, sledding, snowboarding and playing with their neighborhood friends.
hope you have all enjoyed our snowy december!

wishing all of you a peaceful, blessed day filled with yummy food and warm family memories! have a happy one.

for those that know me, you know laundry (among many common housekeeping tasks!) just isn’t my strength (to say the least), so when I found this quote, i had to share it! hee hee !
“I believe you should live each day as if it is your last, which is why I don’t have any clean laundry, because, come on, who wants to wash clothes on the last day of their life?”
my dream laundry room…a space like this might make me want to do laundry…
